The Community Education and Enrichment Network, a division of Greater Chicago Neighborhoods, Inc., in partnership with FIRST Robotics Team 2725, The Ice Princesses, was selected by NASA as an awardee for the 2011 Summer Minority Student Education Forum at NASA Glenn Research Center. The event will take place July 19-21 and will be a phenomenal experience for 30 5th-rising ninth grade girls.
Your school/organization is invited to recommend 5th through rising 9th grade girls to be part of this extraordinary experience. Coach bus transportation, housing, and all meals for the event will be covered by the grant. We will leave Chicago on July 19 early morning and arrive in Cleveland mid afternoon. There will be a welcome and dinner on the 19th along with a legends panel of NASA employees talking about their
careers with the agency. On Tuesday, July 20th, there is a full day of programming, tours, and demonstrations which includes a trailblazer panel, robotics demonstrations, hands-on activities, and an astronaut briefing. We’ll spend the night and return home on Thursday July 19th.

For selection, girls will need to provide two recommendations along with a short essay explaining why they would like to attend the event. At least one year participation on a FIRST LEGO League or FIRST Tech Challenge team is desired but not required however if there is no prior involvement with FIRST Robotics, we are looking for girls
that are sincerely interested in pursuing a STEM career and may dream of working for NASA. There is also the opportunity for schools and community based organizations to attend the event remotely through my distance learning project.
